Position: Professional Writer ("PR")

Professional Writer (“PR”) in charge of the research, creation and publication of: 

  1. Corporate press releases - detailing corporate material matters; including: corporate milestones, quarterly and annual financial statements, financings, new product releases, and corporate achievements 
  2. Scientific, clinical and technical research publications 
  3. Technical manuals; including: operator’s manuals, quick start guides, end user instructions, Standard Operating Procedures (“SOPs”) 
  4. Customer-facing (healthcare practitioner and patient) materials for the marketing department; including copy for: corporate website, advertising, written and digital promotional materials, social media, healthcare practitioner and patient brochures and materials 
  5. Articles to local, regional and national publications on a weekly basis, on a variety of topics related to the Company’s medical laser systems (“Products”), corporate events and corporate business developments 
  6. Scripts and storyboards for television and radio spots, supplying technical information and verifying that the Company’s Products and services are accurately represented 
  7. Copy for all corporate departments and senior management initiatives to ensure cohesive branding and messaging for public relations and investor relations initiatives 
  8. Original content and revision of previously published business materials, including product and service guides, direct mail campaign materials, e-mail blasts, business to consumer and business-to-business presentation materials 

All copy, concerning the Company and/or the Company’s medical laser systems (“Products”), must be clear and concise, in compliance with Associated Press (“AP”) style, using impeccable grammar and spelling, and tailored specifically to be impactful to the intended audience. 

All copy is subject to senior management and Corporate Disclosure Committee (“CDC”) review and written approval prior to publication and release. 

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Meet with various corporate departments and/or senior management to research and compile a one (1) year rolling plan of upcoming copy assignments, to maintain consistency and high-quality for future documentation 
  • Creation of a copy assignment specification template, which includes: intended audience, main speaking points, raw data, draft copy, copy length in words 
  • Research, create, reference and publish clear, concise and impactful copy, based on the copy assignment specification, using impeccable grammar and spelling, tailored specifically to the audience (i.e.: general public to Ph.D. researcher), for review and approval by requesting department, senior management and CDC, prior to publication and release 
  • Develop a standardized corporate style that will reflect corporate culture and be expressed in all corporate copy assignments 
  • Maintain stylistic, notational, and organizational standards to unify communications (AP style) 
  • Develop user-facing tutorials and documentation to improve the customer experience 
  • Edit existing content to conform to the standardized corporate style and maximize clarity and impact 
  • Exceptional writing ability is mandatory, including: impeccable grammar and spelling in the English language, conveying complex concepts with clarity and ease to specific target audiences, with an ability to adjust denotation and connotation of the copy to allow the reader to quickly, easily and enjoyably absorb the copy 
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, digital and presentation) with all corporate employees, senior management, CDC members and external clinical, scientific and technical consultants to understand salient details and translating these into user friendly copy, which is targeted to the audience and impactful 

Skills and Qualifications Required: 

  • University education with a bachelors or masters degree in English, augmented by numerous professional and/or creative writing classes 
  • 5+ years’ proven experience as a professional writer 
  • Portfolio of successful writing assignments for various target audiences, incorporating various writing styles and media 
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office environment (Office, Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) 
  • Exemplary oral, written, digital and presentation communication skills, with an ability to tailor copy to specific target audiences 
  • Independent and interdependent worker with a proven ability to achieve objectives under minimal supervision 
  • Self-disciplined, self-motivated and professional in demeanor 
  • Team player with a proven ability to build positive relationships at all levels of an organization, especially with senior management, CDC members, external clinical, scientific and technical consultants and all corporate departments 
  • Polished individual who remains calm and focused under pressure 
  • Deadline orientated with an ability to meet tight deadlines, even if it means working late 
  • Personally committed to focus, deliver and be accountable for their performance and the Company’s messaging accuracy and performance 
  • Organized individual with the ability to prioritize in a multi-tasking environment with excellent attention to detail 
  • Enjoys working in a challenging and fast growth environment 
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability with an ability to learn from past opportunities, analyze past performance and implement strategies to effectively improve performance 
  • Hard working and able to lead by example 

Compensation:

$60,000 to $70,000 base, commensurate with experience + performance bonus + employee benefits (after 3 months) + stock options, subject to board of director approval.
